Papa/Veryl
I've been meaning to write this for some time now.
He makes me smile. He makes me laugh. He makes me happy.
Veryl has a way...a way about him that makes even the most insignificant feeling person in the room feel the most important. He doesn't seem to try, it just comes natural to him. If I could just blink and have him here on a down or gloomy day, he'd turn it around with just the smile in his eyes. That's what he does...he rescues everyone from whatever difficult situation they are in. He thinks about them, prays for them, he serves them. What a truly kind and soft heart he has.
Selfless. Veryl is selfless.
Never a more hard working man. If it's maneuvering a 1/2 ton basketball hoop out of the pool, or packing up Christmas decorations for another year, or simply folding laundry...it's done with a plan and strategy in place. It's done with perfection. His children are evidence of this masterful trait he possesses. My Scott would say he's managed to land where he wants to in life so far because of the many great lessons learned from his father. Create a plan and execute it with hard work and perseverance.
He is young at heart. Very few Fathers in the history of the world are deemed cool enough to hang out with their childrens' friends. Veryl earned a full thumbs up on that from all four of his kids growing up. So cool in fact, that he was even invited to attend rock concerts with boys. Now that's almost unattainable!
He loves his bike. Baby Mimi in the pic, or anyone else lucky enough to take a ride with Papa, gets a chance to witness first hand the smile that grows big and bright across his face when he cruises on his mint condition 1992 Heritage Softail Classic Harley Davidson. It is THE best!
The first time I met Veryl was over ten years ago on a cold brisk evening in Rexburg, Idaho. He traveled up to see Scott play ball at Ricks College and even caught my game too. Following the games, he indulged us by taking us out for some big juicy steaks. Oh boy do I remember that night as Scott was so proud and anxious for me to finally meet the infamous, Veryl! As I sat across from him, he made certain I felt like one of his own immediately. He took me in and loved me. Veryl exudes love and doesn't hold back. That is absolutely my favorite thing about him.
I feel lucky enough to have found my prince charming in Scott. Veryl as my Father-in-Law too? What an incredible honor. What an incredible dream come true.

I hardly know the man and I love him! Of course that may be due in part to how much my husband loves him. He can never say enough about him either.
BTW, I don't think you can go wrong with a family picture, they are all gorgeous! But I am partial to walking ones... Your family looked great.
I'm glad I got to see you over to break if only for a minute. Can't wait to have to back to hang out more regularly!

Jessica,
This is Lisa Harris. I had to stop by and read the post that your wonderful father in law boasted about tonight. I have only known he and Anne a short time and they are truly the most magnificent couple in mine and Eric's life right now. Your words captured exactly the way all of us feel every Tuesday night with your in laws. They are exceptional people.
Thanks for sharing this post.

Jessica, I'm so happy that you were able to post this wonderful tribute to Veryl. I, as his Mother, am most grateful that the little darling mischievious boy who blessed our home is loved and recognized for the special person he is. He truly is so very thoughtful and kind. How we appreciate his thoughts and concerns for us as we get older. We really look forward to his phone calls and his cheerful greetings,
Do wish we lived closer but he does the next best thing by letting us hear his voice. He may be a man's man but he is still our lovable dear boy. Mom & Papa
THANKS
